With the new certification, the Werderaner Tannenhof is making a clear statement for more climate protection, nature conservation and labor protection. Thanks to an initiative of the Association of Natural Christmas Trees (Verband natürlicher Weihnachtsbaum e.V.), of which Werderaner Tannenhof is a member, the company is now being audited for the first time according to uniform standards throughout Europe. After certification by the Control Union certification body on August 9, 2021, it will be allowed to label its trees with the independent Naturbaumsiegel (natural tree seal). In this way, the producer is responding to the wishes of many customers, who are demanding greater transparency and want to make a contribution to climate protection and sustainability with their purchasing decisions.
The most important criteria of the Naturbaumsiegel:
- Biodiversity
- environmental protection
- Conservation of resources
- Traceability back to the source
- Social criteria
Gentle cultivation well above legal standards.
A basic requirement for acquiring the Naturbaumiegel was a valid GLOBAL G.A.P. or PEFC certificate of Betrieb Werderaner Tannenhof. Beyond this minimum requirement, further specifications must be met: For example, a new tree is replanted for every tree harvested. In addition, the certificate holders ensure more biodiversity by creating blooming fields. In this way, they counteract insect die-off.
Further measures ensure reduced energy consumption during care and harvesting, which has a positive effect on greenhouse gas emissions and benefits climate protection. Social criteria such as training and good housing for the harvest workers complete the comprehensive criteria of the seal.
A total of 23 control points must be implemented. The producers pledge to adhere to the requirements and are inspected by independent inspection bodies on the basis of a standardized catalog in regular random samples.
