New out-of-home catering regulation for Bio

Bio-Catering für die Außer-Haus-VerpflegungThe new out-of-home catering regulation has been in effect since 05.10.2023.

Until now, out-of-home catering (AHV) businesses in the bio sector have been regulated under the Organic Farming Act - ÖLG. Since the summer of 2023, the new version is in effect (Öko-Landbaugesetz-Durchführungsverordnung - ÖLG-DV) and the AHV sector is now regulated in a separate regulation, the Bio-AHVV.

Consequently, AHV companies, i.e. restaurants, caterers, canteens, food trucks, etc., must be certified in accordance with this regulation if an organic claim is to be made.

The regulation is meant to simplify procedures for the companies in order to create an incentive for increased use of organic products. The biggest difference is the elimination of the flow of goods calculation and the associated, lower documentation effort. Fundamental aspects such as the separation and labeling of organic and conventional goods in the warehouse, the verification of supplier certificates and the training of employees remain unchanged.

The transition of already organic-certified farms will take place gradually in 2024. Applications for the contract adjustment of existing clients will be processed from November 2023. A circular letter will also be sent to the affected clients shortly.

New clients will be accepted directly into the new program from now on.
